For Autumn 2025 Enrolment

This introduction to German course introduces first-year students to the German language, focusing on basic communication skills, cultural understanding and basic faith-based vocabulary. By the end of the Intro to German class, students will be able to handle simple conversations, understand essential grammar, and discuss elements of their faith in German.

Throughout the year, students will learn about the following Intro. to German topics:

• Greetings and Social Introductions
• Spelling and Alphabet
• Numbers and Basic Counting
• Ordering and Shopping
• Talking About Family
• Christmas Theme
• Living Arrangements and Descriptions
• Daily Routines and Telling Time
• Leisure Activities
• Giving Directions and Travel
• Church and Faith Vocabulary
• Easter Theme
• Food and Mealtimes

This High School German course is an introduction course for those wanting to consider the iGCSE German Exam in future years. However, it is eligible for 1 high school World Languages credit on a USA Qualifications transcript.

Introduction to German Course Details

Day & Time: Mondays 3-4:30 pm GMT (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Location: Zoom Meeting

Tutor: Bella Tanzer

Required Materials: We will be using various free online resources and worksheets. No workbook is needed.

Prerequisite: None

This class is ideal for students aged 12+.

Intro To German, a beginner-level high school course, will allow students to gain confidence in social situations that correspond to a beginner level of German vocabulary and pronunciation, which is typically found in a high school year 1 course.  Students will learn German through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  This will be done in live, online sessions as small groups or the entire class together.  

Live courses and homework assignments will include a variety of fun educational resources to reinforce the learning in the weekly live sessions.

Students will also be set weekly work to complete prior to the next class session and are encouraged to use the things learned each week at home.

In addition to the weekly homework, there will be:

• Weekly quizzes
• Project work
• Presentations

In High School Intro to German, students will:

• Learn and develop brief social exchanges.
• Learn how to discuss practical issues of daily life.
• learn how to narrate and describe personal experiences, including being able to share their faith with German speakers, 
• Learn about important German holidays
• and much more.
