More About Scott

Scott attended the University of St Andrews, where he studied Chemistry, which included modules in pure mathematics. After completing the second year of his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Scott decided that a career in chemistry was not for him. He then moved to Loughborough University, where he graduated with a first-class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science, with the intention of joining the Royal Marines as an Officer.

God graciously had other (and much better) plans for Scott. During Scott’s final year at Loughborough University, God saved him when Scott picked up a Bible one night and began reading it. Following this, Scott decided to pursue a career in teaching and completed his Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in mathematics teaching through the University of Leicester, gaining Qualified Teacher Status.

Scott then taught mathematics in two state schools, gaining experience teaching KS3, GCSE, and A-level mathematics. Over time, it became clear that God had placed a desire on Scott’s heart to support Christian home educators as they seek to raise their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Scott is married to Katy, and in their spare time, they enjoy walking in nature, serving in their local church, and hosting friends and family for dinner. At the time of writing, Scott and Katy are expecting their first child, God willing, in the summer of 2026, and so they are busy preparing for the arrival of Baby McDowell.

Scott will be tutoring KS3 Maths Year 1 and Year 3, and A-level Maths with Arise Home Education.
