Exam Centre Partnership
For students enroled in Arise classes in preparation for iGCSE exams, we have partnered with Tutors & Exams, who have centres in various locations throughout England. They also provide remote invigilation for Pearson exams for anywhere in the UK (and some international locations).
Arise families registering for exams before the deadline are eligible for a discount on their registration fees. Certain terms and conditions apply. Email us for complete details at Arise@AriseHomeEdcuation.com
Finding Other Exam Centres
If you seek to sit an exam, you will need to find and register at an exam centre. We encourage you to access resources near you, as recommended by your local home education groups (some found on Facebook), as these will provide the most up-to-date and accurate information for your area of the UK.
For home educators in Scotland, many have used the following:
- The Russian center (RCS Haven Exam Center) for Edexcel and some AQA exams. They also provide some accommodation.
- Glenalmond, Perthshire, does all boards (except SQA), they don’t do accommodations or any exams that require coursework/practicals, etc.
- Basil Paterson, in Edinburgh
- Education Academy Scotland (formerly The Saturday School), in Glasgow, are SQA exam centres in Scotland. They also accept private candidates for Edexcel exams.
We would emphasise that the exam centre availability for private candidates is ever-changing. Please do your own research for centres near you offering exams in the subjects your students are taking.
Please check with the various exam centres to ensure they offer the exam you need. We provide a number of tips for UK home education and information on UK exam success for home school families.
Are there alternatives to the UK exam model?
Because of the challenges of sitting exams as a private candidate, many families opt to do the coursework and not sit the UK exam. Instead, they put the completed coursework and semester grades on a US high school transcript. Meeting US Qualifications is a proven path to university for many home-educated students seeking higher education. At Arise, we can help you navigate the US Qualifications if you are not familiar, as most of our live online classes are suited for either UK exams or US qualifications. We have resources for parents, including coaching sessions to help you succeed in your home education journey.
The US Qualifications Model and the SAT exam.
If you are considering following the US qualifications model, you will need to add the SAT exam to your academic plan. It should be taken late in the student’s secondary education. In America, students typically take it at age 16 or 17. It can be taken as many times as desired, and there are a number of free revision resources available. Complete details for the SAT and where to take it internationally can be found on the Collegeboard.org website.
