One way is to apply to a UK university that will accept a USA high school diploma and transcript. Another way is to apply to a US university. Then, after completing a year or two of study, transfer to a UK university. Finally, home educators can also use their USA transcript and diploma to apply for jobs or apprenticeships in the UK.

Specifically, you will need to search the ‘international students’ section of university websites. Look for USA admissions information. You can disregard international student fees if you are able to prove British citizenship or residency requirements.

Once you have found a university that accepts USA high school diplomas and transcripts, you will need to apply to the university in the same way that you would apply to any other UK university – via UCAS. You should also contact the admissions department directly and confirm how they would like you to apply. Each university had a different process. Some may require you to complete admission applications outside the UCAS system. You will need to submit your USA high school diploma and transcript, as well as other required documents. If you have any exam results such as SAT, ACT, AP subject tests, IGCSE, GCSE, Higers, or A-level results you will need to ensure they receive those as well.

Applying to a US university and then transferring to a UK university

Another option for UK home educators is to first apply and attend a US university. Then after a year or two of study, transfer to a UK university. This can be a good option if you are interested in studying in the US but want to finish your degree in the UK. To transfer to a UK university from a US university, you will need to meet the transfer requirements of the UK university you are interested in. These requirements will vary from university to university, but they typically include having a certain GPA (grade point average) and completing certain courses.

While this is likely a viable option it is not used very often. It may become more popular as online education continues to improve. If this is an option you would like to consider, I would first encourage you to consider Open University with the possibility of transferring after receiving the appropriate level of undergraduate certificates or diplomas.

Use your USA high school diploma & transcript to apply for jobs or apprenticeships in the UK

To do this, you will need to make sure that your USA transcript and diploma are recognized by the UK employer or apprenticeship provider. You can do this by contacting the employer or apprenticeship provider directly or by searching online. Once you have found an employer or apprenticeship provider that recognizes USA transcripts and diplomas, you can apply for the job or apprenticeship in the same way that you would apply for any other job or apprenticeship in the UK.
