Discover Arts Award Highlights

  •  Art Projects
  • Interactive learning
  • Learning about Topics and Artists

Discover Arts Award Objectives and Outcomes.

The Club is a relaxed alternative or supplement to more formal art lessons, it allows children to join a fun and interactive group. It provides the opportunity to gain a Discover Arts Award certificate. (This is the first level of Arts Award, validated by Trinity college London), or can be an introduction to future more formal art lessons. The sessions will cover topics such as landscapes, basic drawing skills, and drawing people.

Children are introduced to the work of a couple of artists, take part in art appreciation and will have opportunities to work on drawing and painting projects. In addition children will be encouraged to share their own art work and learning with others and to join in with fun and interactive activities.

Discover Art Topics Include:

  • Landscapes
  • Drawing people
  •  Art Appreciation

Parents and students, please note: Part of this course will involve sharing your art in class and your thought processes around it.  You will also be expected to encourage, comment on, and give feedback to other students.  This is harder for some than others, but it is an important part of the growth process.  The mutual encouragement and support will be beneficial for all.

God is a creative God, and we reflect him and his glory when we use our creative skills. In photography, we learn how beauty, goodness, and truth are inseparable. As our culture moves away from a foundation of truth, art holds less meaning and less awe, but from a foundation of truth and goodness, we can produce art that is full of beauty. Reflecting on the order and truth that is inherent in the Christian worldview is a springboard for the creation of art with depth, and that also incidentally carries a message of hope while not shying away from capturing the suffering that is part of the groaning creation and the human condition.

What Is Involved for Parents?

To receive the Discover Arts Award certificate, students should complete all their portfolio/workbook and logbook assignments and send the work for evaluation to the tutor. This will be managed via the Arise digital classroom. Younger students will need online support for submitting items for review.

There is minimal written work so this course is ideal for a wide range of ages and abilities. There is no homework other than to complete any unfinished projects. However children who are being entered for the Discover Arts Award will need to complete the Discover Map and send a portfolio of art work done in class or otherwise. This work will be submitted to the Advisor as a PDF or Word document for assessment.

The additional cost for entry to Discover Arts Award, payable to the Advisor is £10, to cover the qualification cost and postage of certificate.

The Arts Award is a very inclusive qualification. If, due to additional support needs, accommodations are needed in place of written work, the advisor can discuss with the parent alternative methods of recording the student’s progress.
