A-Level Physics Year 1 | AS/A Level
This A Level Physics course develops a deep understanding of the fundamental laws that govern God’s created universe. Students explore mechanics, waves, electricity, materials, and particle physics through mathematical modelling, practical investigation, and critical analysis. Alongside rigorous academic content, the course intentionally encourages awe, humility, and stewardship, recognising physics as the study of the orderly and intelligible world God has made.
A-Level Physics Year 1 (AS Level) Course Details
This course begins the week of 17 August 2026.
In the class, we will complete Year 1 over the course of 32 weeks in our live online sessions.
Age: 16+
Day & Time: Wednesdays & Fridays 11 am-12:30 pm UK
Location: Zoom Meeting
Tutor: Hannah
Required Materials:
- A Level Physics Textbook
- A Level Physics Workbook
- This scientific calculator (or similar).
- Notebook, ruler, protractor
- Graph paper
Pre-requisites: GCSE Physics (or Combined Science with strong physics content). Students should be confident with algebra, rearranging equations, and basic graph skills, as demonstrated in GCSE Year 2 level Maths
AS/A Level Physics allows a student to study for the exam, or to study the course as part of their high school diploma. This is perfect for students who require Physics at a higher level.
This is a mathematically demanding course that requires consistent practice and independent study. Students are expected to engage with practical work and revision throughout the year.

AS/A Level Physics allows a student to study for the exam or to study the course as part of their high school diploma. This is perfect for students who require Physics at a higher level.
This is a mathematically demanding course that requires consistent practice and independent study. Students are expected to engage with practical work and revision throughout the year.
AS/A Level Physics Course Highlights
- Strong emphasis on practical investigations, data analysis, and exam-style problem solving
- Clear integration of a Christian worldview, exploring how physics reflects God’s order, faithfulness, and sustaining power
- Regular review and consolidation units to build confidence and long-term understanding
- Thought-provoking investigations such as terminal velocity, Young modulus, standing waves, and noise-cancelling technology
Students will develop the ability to describe physical phenomena using precise language, mathematics, and experimental evidence. They will learn to plan, carry out, and evaluate practical investigations, considering uncertainty, error, and limitations in measurement.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Apply physical laws to unfamiliar situations using mathematical reasoning
- Analyse experimental data critically and communicate conclusions clearly
- Understand the limits of scientific models while appreciating their usefulness
- Reflect on physics as a means of exploring God’s creation rather than replacing the Creator
AS/ A Level Physics Year 1 Topics Include:
- Physical quantities, SI units, scalars and vectors, errors and uncertainties
- Kinematics, equations of motion, momentum, and Newton’s laws
- Forces, equilibrium, turning effects, density, and pressure
- Work, energy, power, and energy conservation
- Materials: stress, strain, elastic and plastic behaviour, Young modulus
- Waves: progressive, stationary, sound, Doppler effect, diffraction, interference, polarisation
- Superposition and wave applications
- Electricity: current, potential difference, resistance, circuits, Kirchhoff’s laws, potential dividers
- Atoms, nuclei, radiation, and particle physics
- Extensive review, revision, practical work, and exam preparation
This is a mathematically demanding course that requires consistent practice and independent study. Students are expected to engage with practical work and revision throughout the year.
This course is eligible for USA High School Diploma & Transcript credit. Students successfully completing this course will receive 1 high school math credit for each module.
