Introducing our Contextual British History-Year 2: Victorian and Modern Era [Live Class].
In this informative and engaging course, students will delve into the captivating history of Victorian England and the modern era through the lives of influential figures such as Charles Dickens and C.S. Lewis.
In this contextual history class, we do not read plays, novels, or discuss iambic pentameter (well, not too much at least). Those aspects are covered in depth in the British Literature Year 1 & 2 Literature & Composition courses.
Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to learn about the world leaders, authors, scientists, and other significant individuals who played pivotal roles during the dramatic times of the Industrial Revolution, WW1, WW2, and the Cold War. From the societal impacts of the Industrial Revolution to the global turmoil of the World Wars and the ideological tensions of the Cold War, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key events and developments that shaped Victorian and modern British history.
Our veteran home education tutors will guide students through dynamic discussions and interactive activities, allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation for the historical context in which these influential individuals lived and thrived. By exploring the lives and contributions of Charles Dickens, C.S. Lewis, and other prominent figures, students will gain valuable insights into the cultural, social, and political dynamics of these transformative periods in British history.
Join us for our Contextual British History-Year 2: Victorian and Modern Era [Live Class] and embark on a fascinating journey through time as we uncover the rich tapestry of Victorian and modern British history.
Each semester students will research a variety of famous people including:
- Authors/Philosophers
- World Leaders
- Artists
- Musicians/Composers
- Christian Evangelists/Theologians/Missionaries/Humanitarians
- Social Activists
- Scientists
- Explorers
- and more
Through hands-on activities, students will create a dinner party including a guest list, menu, activities, music, and more. Each student will present their culminating project in a class presentation. And, if you choose, you can organize your own event where people attend your dinner party in person and take on the role of a famous figure from the guest list. This extra effort is perfect for students needing a senior thesis/culminating studies project if they are keen on further study in history or literature.
This dinner party concept for each semester’s main project allows for much creativity.
Some students have enjoyed organizing military greats to meet and share war stories over pub food. Others have organized multi-course meals with music and jesters to entertain high-society aristocrats from all over the world. The options are limited only by the student’s creativity.
This course is a required companion to our British Literature & Composition Year 2 – Dickens & Lewis course for those studying for the iGCSE Literature exam. Students following the USA High School Diploma & Transcript model will receive 1 Social Studies and 1 Literature & Composition credit for each class successfully completed with a passing grade.
