Explore Arts Award Objectives and Outcomes.
The Explore Arts Award gives young people the opportunity to discover, explore, and be inspired by the arts. The arts can be creative endeavours of many types. The course gives young people:
- the opportunity to extend their creativity,
- learn about other artists as well as projects or organizations that use art in their daily work,
- begin or continue developing a range of adaptable learning skills, including topic research, written and verbal communication, project planning, and evaluative skills.
The Explore Arts Award is an entry-level 3 qualification on the regulated qualifications framework and is validated by Trinity College London. It is a great place start the Arts Award, Journey. This particular live class version of the course has a focus on how art can reflect and proclaim the beauty of creation and be a valuable tool for serving those in the community around us.
By the end of the course, students have a complete logbook, a growing sense of creative confidence, and a nationally recognized qualification; all while growing in imagination, skill, and faith.
Explore Arts Award Topics Include
- What are the arts?
- Taking part in art activities.
- Exploring an artist and their work in more detail.
- Learn about the work of an arts organization.
- Design, plan, and make a piece of art and record the process.
- Share things learnt during the course.
Parents and students, please note: Part of this course will involve sharing your art in class and your thought processes around it. You will also be expected to encourage, comment on, and give feedback to other students. This is harder for some than others, but it is an important part of the growth process. The mutual encouragement and support will be beneficial for all.
God is a creative God, and we reflect him and his glory when we use our creative skills. In photography, we learn how beauty, goodness, and truth are inseparable. As our culture moves away from a foundation of truth, art holds less meaning and less awe, but from a foundation of truth and goodness, we can produce art that is full of beauty. Reflecting on the order and truth that is inherent in the Christian worldview is a springboard for the creation of art with depth, and that also incidentally carries a message of hope while not shying away from capturing the suffering that is part of the groaning creation and the human condition.
What Is Involved for Parents?
To receive the Explore Arts Award certificate, students should complete all their portfolio and logbook assignments and send the work for evaluation to their advisor. This will be managed via the Arise digital classroom. Younger students will need online support for submitting items for review.
The relevant tutor administrative fee for submission and the Trinity College certificate fee will be requested by the tutor near the end of the class sessions.
The Arts Award is a very inclusive qualification. If, due to additional support needs, accommodations are needed in place of written work, the advisor can discuss with the parent alternative methods of recording the student’s progress.
