Description

This High School Spanish Year 1 course is an introduction course for those wanting to consider the GCSE Spanish Exam in future years at their local UK college. However, t is eligible for 1 high school World Languages credit on a USA Qualifications transcript.

Day & Time: Wednesdays 1-1:40 pm & 2-2:40 pm (Two 40-minute sessions with a 20  min break in the middle.)

High School Spanish 1

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, in the number of native speakers, surpassed only by Mandarin Chinese, according to the report from the Cervantes Institute of Spain. In total, 21 nations officially use the language, each with its own accent and adaptations.

Spanish 1, a beginner-level high school course, will allow students to gain confidence in social situations that correspond to a beginner level of Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation, which is typically found in a high school year 1 course.  Students will learn  Spanish through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  This will be done in live, online sessions as small groups or the entire class together.  

Live courses and homework assignments will include a variety of fun educational resources to reinforce the learning in the weekly live sessions.

Students will also be set weekly work to complete prior to the next class session and are encouraged to use the things learned each week at home. 

This class is ideal for students aged 12+.

In High School Spanish Year 1, students will:

• Learn and develop brief social exchanges.
• Learn how to discuss practical issues of daily life.
• learn how to narrate and describe personal experiences, including being able to share their faith with Spanish speakers, 
• Learn how and when to use common courtesy formulas
• Learn about the cultural differences of Spanish people throughout the world. allowing the student to reflect on the diversity of Spanish, as a language and as a prism of cultures.
