Higher Maths (SQA)

For Autumn 2025 Enrolment

This Higher Maths (SQA) course is taught through live online classes, with a tutor, with a background in mathematical physics. The 30-week class consists of two weekly online classes lasting 40 mins each. In class, we will cover the course content for the Higher Maths SQA curriculum.

This course is eligible for USA High School Diploma & Transcript credit.  Students successfully completing this course will receive 1 high school math credit.

Higher Maths SQA Course Details

In the class, we will complete the SQA math curriculum over the course of 30 weeks in our live online sessions.

Day & Time: Tuesdays 9:30-10:10 am & Thursdays 2-2:40 pm GMT (Two 40-minute sessions each week.)

Location: Zoom Meeting

Tutor: Emma Cummings

Pre-requisites:  iGCSE Maths Year 1 & Year 2 or similar.

Required Materials:

• Higher Mathematics, Second edition. Published by Hodder 
• This scientific calculator (or similar).
• (optional) Math Facts Helps

Higher Maths (SQA) allows a student to study for the Higher Maths SQA exam, or to study the course as part of their high school diploma. This is perfect for students who require maths at a higher level.

The course will be taught via two weekly online sessions, with homework set for students. Emma is available for questions through the week.

The course will include:

• Algebraic skills, such as polynomials and logarithmic functions.
• Trigonometry.
• Identifying and sketching functions.
• Composite and Inverse functions
• Solving algebraic equations
• Solving trigonometric functions
• Vectors
• Introducing Calculus: Differentiation and Integration
• Circles
• Sequences
• Using mathematical skills to interpret a situation.

Please note if you seek to sit the exam you will need to find and register at an exam centre. Basil Paterson, in Edinburgh, and The Saturday School, in Glasgow, are SQA exam centres in Scotland

Higher Maths SQA Live, Online Class

Classes will be interactive, and due to the live nature of the classes, they will be tailored to the individual needs of the students. We will use a number of interactive technologies to help gain an understanding of the concepts of mathematics.  Maths games will also be included to help engage students in learning.

We understand maths can be a challenge for many students, and that it can induce a lot of anxiety. Emma is a gentle instructor, with empathy towards those struggling with maths.

We will go over a lot of examples, and students will have the opportunity to bring their problems to the class, as well as contact the tutor throughout the week with their problems.
