High School GCSE Astronomy – Year 1

This class is open for January 2025 enrolment.

In the first semester of GCSE Astronomy, students learned about the history of astronomy, the structure of the earth, the structure and orbit of the moon, seasons, eclipses, and time. The second semester starts with observing the solar system and asteroids, meteorites, and comets. 

We want this class to be a good fit for your teen. Please contact us and confirm your teen is ready for what will be covered in 2nd semester prior to purchasing this second semester-only course.

GCSE Astronomy is a fascinating subject that will awaken your child’s wonder to the glory of Creation. This course will cover year 1 of the 2-year GCSE astronomy course. And it can be used for the US High School Transcript. 

Day & Time: Mondays 11:10 am-12:30 pm (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Prerequisites: Needs to be confident in maths and working at an iGCSE or equivalent level.

Our study will take us through the wonders of the Solar System, as we discover the dazzling variety of worlds in our local neighbourhood in the cosmos. We will look at the stars and discover the physics behind their power, and ultimately what makes life on earth possible. And we will study the fascinating world of cosmology.

The course also introduces the child to stargazing, and how to navigate the night sky. We will discuss observational skills used by astronomers to understand and unlock the mysteries of the cosmos.
