This short workbook is an excellent introduction or can be used to review common literary devices. This covers rhyme, simile, metaphor, alliteration, consonance, assonance, anaphora, antithesis, onomatopoeia, personification, pun, and enjambment. Each device is a great work of poetry to look at how the device is used, and space for the student to create their own example. Poets include Wordsworth, Robert Frost, Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, and Mary Oliver.

In addition, we look at specific forms of poems. These are the Haiku, Kenning, Cinquin, and The Sonnet.

The booklet has an autumn theme, making it perfect for an autumn poetry study. However, it can be used at any time of the year.  This workbook is perfect to supplement English for teens trying to learn the different literary devices, but also for upper primary-aged children first being introduced to them
