For January 2026 Enrolment

Did you know that half of our English vocabulary is based on Latin roots? Did you know that Latin pops up in Science, Maths, Law, Government, Logic and Theology? Did you know that as well as being a tool to help us master English grammar, Latin is a formative subject that literally trains the brain to think?

This Latin course will provide a gentle introduction to the principles of Latin grammar and Latin vocabulary. We will use Memoria Press’ “Prima Latina” which provides a sure foundation for “Latina Christiana” which we hope to offer next year. 

Latin A | Prima Latina Course Details

Day & Time: Thursday 9:30-11am UK Time Zone (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Location: Zoom Meeting

Tutor: Jessica Turpin

Required Materials:

• Prima Latina Student Workbook – Second Edition.

The aim of this course is to complete “Prima Latina” in fifteen weeks.

While Prima Latina is geared toward lower primary ages, it is still an excellent and logical place to start for students aged 11+ who are ready to learn in an online community at Arise Home Education.

In Latin A | Prima Latina we will learn:

• To identify seven parts of speech (verbs, nouns, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions).
• Two tenses (present and future)
• 125 Latin vocabulary words
• Latin numbers 1-10
• Constellations
• Conjunctions
• Declensions
• Derivatives
• Two prayers including “The Lord’s Prayer”

Upon completion of Prima Latina students may have an idea as to whether Latin is a subject they may wish to pursue further.

Prima Latina may be followed by Latina Christiana, and then First Form, Second Form, Third Form, and Fourth Form Latin. The forms may each be counted as one high school credit. They lay a solid foundation in Lain. For those wishing to pursue the Cambridge iGCSE Latin exam, some additional study and revision of set texts would be necessary.
