Intro to Logic Course Objectives and Outcomes
This foundational course introduces students (ages 11–13) to the basic principles of logical reasoning and argument analysis. Students will learn how to identify common logical fallacies, evaluate evidence, and distinguish sound arguments from persuasive but flawed reasoning.
Through engaging examples drawn from everyday life, media, and age-appropriate apologetics topics, students will practice recognizing errors such as straw man arguments, false dilemmas, ad hominem attacks, appeals to authority, and circular reasoning. They will also learn how to construct clear, respectful, and logically coherent arguments of their own.
Within a biblical worldview framework, the course emphasizes that logic is not merely a debate tool, but a way of loving God with our minds. Students will explore how clear thinking supports truth-seeking, wise discernment, and gracious engagement with others. Special attention will be given to applying logical analysis to worldview questions about truth, morality, identity, and the existence of God.
By the end of the course, students will be better equipped to:
- Recognize faulty reasoning in conversations and media
- Think carefully about apologetics questions
- Articulate their beliefs with clarity and confidence
- Discern the assumptions underlying competing worldviews
This course lays an essential foundation for future study in Apologetics Year 1: Intellectual Foundations for Christianity and Apologetics Year 2: Worldview, Philosophy, and Art Analysis, with the goal of forming thoughtful young Christians who can reason carefully and respond graciously.
Intro to Logic Course Highlights
- Learn logical fallacies and how to spot them in the world.Â
- Articulate arguments clearlyÂ
- Think critically about a range of age-appropriate topics.

About the Tutor
Agnes has a degree in theology from Trinity Seminary, has been an educator for 17 years, and has an obsessive interest in worldview and the consequences of ideas playing out in our culture. Nearly every dinner time in her home is spent debating controversial issues, as she and her husband have always wanted their kids not to be afraid of culture or withdraw from culture but to interact with it, challenge it, and be able to think clearly about the different forces at play in the world around them.
