In the self-paced Pre-iGCSE science course, we believe that students learn best when their curiosity is encouraged and they have an opportunity for independent, in-depth exploration. To encourage this, students will create projects, reports, and their own science experiment notebook as part of the class.

These projects will be relevant to the course as well as have an element of student choice, allowing students to deep-dive into subjects that pique their interest or explore other aspects of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It’s an opportunity for them to take charge of their learning and showcase their knowledge and creativity.

This course offers an engaging and interactive learning experience, where students not only gain a deeper understanding of the sciences but also develop essential skills in research, analysis, and contextualizing scientific ideas.

This secondary school science curriculum lays the foundation your child needs to advance to iGCSE/GCSE science. It is suitable for students aged 11-14 ready for KS3 level work (US grades 7th and 8th).

The Pre-iGCSE course begins with:

• An introduction to the scientific method, looking at how to do experiments, learning about controls and variables.
• We will also look at how to take measurements and present findings in a clear manner. 

Once this foundation is laid, we will explore Biology:

• Different kingdoms and the system of classification. 
• Organelles of different types of cells and their functions. 
• Diffusion and Osmosis
• Systems of the Body
• Respiration 
• Plants
• Ecosystems
• DNA and inheritance

Then we will engage in Chemistry:

• Matter- states of matter and phase changes
• Atomic models
• Substances and mixtures: This will include the techniques chemists use in experimentation.
• Chemical reactions
• pH- acids, alkalis, and bases
• Energy changes in chemical reactions
• The periodic table
• Materials
• The Earth’s chemical composition and atmosphere

Finally, we will navigate Physics:

• Energy- transfer and uses in everyday life
• Heat and Thermal energy and how it is transferred
• Distance, speed, and time relationships
• Forces in motion: Newton’s Laws
• Springs: Hookes Law
• Gravity
• Pressure in fluids
• Waves and energy
• Light waves
• Electricity: circuits
• Static electricity
• Magnetism: 
• The Physics of Matter
• Space Physics

Throughout the course, we will be looking at how the science points to intelligent design and the hallmarks of a Creator.
