Bronze Level UK Arts Award

  • Create a beautiful portfolio of your work
  • Learn new art, leadership, and communication skills
  • Grow as an artist in an environment of mutual support and encouragement
  • Gain a nationally recognised award

Bronze Level UK Arts Award objectives and outcomes.

This course is all about exploring your creativity, trying new things, and making art that matters.  You’ll have the chance to earn a nationally recognized Bronze or Silver Arts Award! You can choose any art form you love or are already doing in another course, such as painting, sculpture, photography, music, drama, digital art, or something completely unique.

Throughout the year, you’ll not only create amazing work, but also learn to think like an artist, reflect on your process, and see how your creativity can celebrate truth, beauty, and God’s amazing world. You’ll study the work of other artists, experiment with new techniques, share your art with others, and even take on leadership opportunities in creative projects. By the end of the course, you’ll have a complete portfolio, a sense of creative confidence, and a nationally recognized qualification; all while growing in imagination, skill, and faith.

Bronze Level Arts Award Topics Include

  • Discovering Your Medium – Explore different forms of art and find the one that excites you most.
  • Developing Your Skills – Focus on improving your technical ability and creative expression.
  • Inspiration and Influence – Study the work of artists and share why they inspire you
  • Leadership and Sharing Your Art – Take part in creative projects with others, mentor peers, or contribute to exhibitions. Practice presenting and explaining your work thoughtfully.
  • Participate in the Arts as an audience member – have fun at an art event and then express your thoughts about it through your chosen medium.
  • Reflection and Portfolio – Reflect on your creative journey and the choices you made. Assemble a polished portfolio to submit for the Arts Award.

Parents and students, please note: Part of this course will involve sharing your art in class and your thought processes around it.  You will also be expected to encourage, comment on and give feedback to other students.  This is harder for some than others, but it is an important part of the growth process.  The mutual encouragement and support will be beneficial for all.

God is a creative God, and we reflect him and his glory when we use our creative skills. In photography, we learn how beauty, goodness, and truth are inseparable. As our culture moves away from a foundation of truth, art holds less meaning and less awe, but from a foundation of truth and goodness, we can produce art that is full of beauty. Reflecting on the order and truth that is inherent in the Christian worldview is a springboard for the creation of art with depth, and that also incidentally carries a message of hope while not shying away from capturing the suffering that is part of the groaning creation and the human condition.

What Is Involved for Parents?

As part of the Bronze Arts Award, students must:

1. Experience Art as an Audience Member; you may need to help facilitate this for them.

They will need to attend an art event and produce a response or analysis, which can take the form of:

  • A vlog
  • A written response
  • A visual/pictorial response

Suitable art events include:

  • Photography or painting exhibitions
(This is particularly relevant, as photography and painting from a wide range of artists and genres are discussed in class.)
  • Museums or galleries
  • Plays or theatre productions
  • Operas
  • Film screenings
  • Fashion shows
  • An online art experience is also valid if no other experiences are available.

2. Pass Their Skills On To Others – Again, they may need your help to facilitate this.

Students must also demonstrate leadership by sharing the art skills they have learned with others to help someone or a group develop their own art skills. This can be done in several ways:

  • If you are part of a home education co-op, your child could run a short photography or art session for other teens. Alternatively, they can gather a group of close family or friends to share their skills with.
  • If that feels too daunting, they could choose a photography or art skill not yet covered in class and deliver a short presentation to the online class instead (with tutor approval).

While this may feel challenging at first, it is a fantastic opportunity for students to grow in confidence and leadership. Teaching others is one of the best ways to consolidate learning, as it requires a real understanding of the skills involved.  You know you have truly mastered something when you are able to teach it to others.

3. Purchase the Bronze Award workbook,

Purchase the Bronze workbook book which will cost £10.45 with shipping. You may find it cheaper on places like eBay here. This book will make it easy for your child to organise and demonstrate all their learning they need to do for the art award.  This will be their portfolio of work, which they will submit for the award.
