Description

This single semester High School Intro to Spanish course is an introduction course for students aged 12+ wanting to consider the iGCSE Spanish Exam in future years. However, it is eligible for 0.5 high school World Languages credit on a USA Qualifications transcript.

Day & Time: Mondays 4-5:30 pm UK time zone (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Required Materials: The tutor will provide resources; the following items are optional, as not all lessons in each book will be used in this course.

We plan to have a GCSE Spanish course starting Autumn 2026.

Intro to Spanish (KS3/Pre-iGCSE)

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, in terms of the number of native speakers, surpassed only by Mandarin Chinese, according to the report from the Cervantes Institute of Spain. In total, 21 nations officially use the language, each with its own accent and adaptations.

Intro to Spanish, a beginner-level/KS3 high school course, will allow students to gain confidence in social situations that correspond to a beginner level of Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation, which is typically found in an American high school year 1 course.  Students will learn Spanish through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  This will be done in live, online sessions as small groups or the entire class together.  

Live courses and homework assignments will include a variety of fun educational resources to reinforce the learning in the weekly live sessions.

Students will also be set weekly work to complete prior to the next class session and are encouraged to use the things learned each week at home. 

This class is ideal for students aged 12+.

In Intro to Spanish, students will:

• Learn and develop brief social exchanges.
• Learn how to discuss practical issues of daily life.
• Learn how and when to use common courtesy formulas
• Learn about the cultural differences of Spanish people throughout the world. allowing the student to reflect on the diversity of Spanish, as a language and as a prism of cultures.

Outcomes

• Students gain foundational vocabulary, grammar, and cultural knowledge to begin studying GCSE Spanish confidently.
