iGCSE English First Language

For Autumn 2026 

This high school course will follow the Cambridge iGCSE English First Language syllabus, which prepares the student for the UK exam or to earn one US high school English and Composition credit.

Day & Time: Tuesdays 2:30 – 4:00 PM GMT (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Location: Zoom Meeting

Tutor: Emma Cummings

Prerequisite: Pre-GCSE English Grammar & Writing (KS3) or equivalent. The student must be working at an S3/Y9 or 9th-grade level or higher

Required Materials:

• Collins English First Language Student Textbook – For examination from 2027
• Companion Workbook
• Specific literature texts coming soon!

iGCSE English First Language Course Objectives & Outcomes

This course offers a flexible, engaging English program designed to help your teen grow in confidence and skill as a thoughtful reader, clear writer, and effective communicator. Students develop strong reading skills by exploring a variety of texts while learning to understand meaning, evaluate ideas, and recognize how language influences readers. These literary analysis skills develop critical thinking skills through a gentle, thoughtful approach. Writing instruction will help students learn to express ideas clearly and accurately for different purposes and audiences. Speaking and listening activities help build confidence, clarity, and respectful discussion.

Throughout the course, materials and examples are chosen to be age-appropriate, culturally aware, and aligned with Christian values, supporting both academic excellence and character development.
