2035 Biblical Studies O Level – Year 1

The Christian faith and understanding of God is rooted in a collection of wonderful texts that record how God has instructed, corrected, warned, and comforted his people throughout history. This class will look at how different genres of scripture and moments of biblical history reveal different aspects of who our God is, while also appreciating how these texts contribute to the unified whole that we call ‘The Bible.’

Day & Time: Wednesdays 5-6:30 pm GMT (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Course Description

In Biblical Studies Year 1 students will begin to understand and appreciate the whole story of the Bible and what it teaches about God (particularly, the Father and Jesus the Son). Through a study of the Old Testament, we will see how God portrayed himself to Israel and related to them through the covenant given through Moses. Through an examination of the New Testament, especially the Synoptic gospels, we will see how Jesus lived what he taught, and what we learn from him about being his disciples. We will also consider some of the different ways in which scripture has been interpreted throughout history as people have worked to understand God and the scriptures.

This course will follow the Cambridge O Level 2035 specification for those taking it for Exam preparations.
