Required Materials:
- The Intro to Art Year 1 kit is provided with your purchase of this course at no extra fee.
- Please purchase the Studio Art – Digital Textbook. It is located near the bottom of the page. Look for this image.

The Art Studio Year 1 course includes:
- 10 Foundational Principles: Learning to see, value, lighting, texture, composition, perspective, proportions, transferring, colour and sculpture.
- 9 Projects including photography, clay, pottery, painting, etching, sculpture, watercolour, mosaic and drawing, all inspired by a different period or artist.
- Variety, choice and experimentation with assorted media.
The course is designed to give students lots of artistic freedom to explore the creative process and space to experiment with different techniques and materials whilst learning about different art styles from a range of art periods in history and cultures from around the world. Students will be encouraged to research and explore each topic and find reference material for their work. Students may enjoy taking this course along side it’s companion course Art History Year 1.
Students will receive an Art Kit as part of the course, which includes all of the materials needed for the year. Students will need to have access to a space where they can work each week for the class. Some projects are messier than others, so it would be helpful if they had newspaper or a wipeable cloth for the desk and also access to paper towels/wipes to clean up with.
Throughout the year, students will be encouraged to engage in discussions about their work and their classmates’ work and to offer and receive constructive feedback, which will help to further develop their skills and understanding.
Foundational Principles:
- Learning to see – drawing
- Value – graphite pencil and pen tonal drawing and values in paint

“[Our daughter] really enjoyed it and she found your teaching was very clear and helpful!” ~ UK Home Ed. Parent
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
“Our daughter has really enjoyed the Arts and Literature courses so far. She finds them both interesting and challenging, which we, as parents, see as the ideal zone for growth. The structure and accountability have been really helpful, and we’ve noticed her growing in her ability to write clearly, organise her thoughts, and work more independently. We also love the Christian worldview woven into the courses—it creates a safe, supportive environment for her to learn and grow.”
