World Languages Exploration

World Languages Exploration: A FREE 6-week taster live class for students 12+. Explore German, Biblical Hebrew, or Scottish Gaelic for homeschoolers.

Day & Time: Monday’s 3-3:40 pm GMT 3 March – 7 April (one 40-minute session each week)  

Location: Zoom Meeting

Tutor: Agnes Mitchell, Bella Tanzer, and Ashley Hibbard

Required Materials: None – everything is included for these World Languages Exploration taster sessions.

Biblical Hebrew Taster Sessions with Ashley Hibbard– 3 & 10 March

Lesson 1 – Learn your A, B, Gs!

In this lesson, we will learn the twenty-three Hebrew consonants. We’ll talk about why A isn’t A, how Hebrew uses acrostic poetry to praise God’s word—and the origins of Star Trek’s famous ‘live long and prosper’ gesture!

Lesson 2 – Seeing, Chasing, and Scrubby Brambles

In this lesson, we will talk about some of the richness that a knowledge of Hebrew offers to the Christian today. We’ll talk about the first person ever to name God, how God chases us with his goodness, and ponder his humility in meeting us where we are. We’ll also spend some time discussing both how difficult it really is to translate well, but also how amazing our major English translations are, and how confident we can be in their accuracy.

German Taster Sessions with Bella Tanzer – 17 & 24 March

Over two 40-minute sessions, students will be introduced to some of the basics of the German language in an explorative and interactive way. Learners will have the opportunity to explore key vocabulary, basic sentence structure, and pronunciation. These live sessions are designed to give students a taste of the German language and culture, while also building their confidence in speaking and understanding the language.

Whether your high schooler is completely new to German or looking to refresh their skills, this course will provide a welcoming environment to start their language learning journey. I look forward to guiding your student through the first steps of speaking German!

Scottish Gaelic with Agnes Ferguson Mitchell – 31 March & 7 April

In two taster sessions, students will learn about the origins of Scottish Gaelic, and be introduced to the Gaelic alphabet, including Scottish Gaelic pronunciation.  Students will learn common greetings, numbers, telling time, simple verb conjugations, and noun declensions and engage in conversational Scottish Gaelic. This taster session is suitable for complete beginners or those with some prior knowledge.
