High School GCSE Astronomy – Year 1

For Autumn 2025 Enrolment

GCSE Astronomy is a fascinating subject that will awaken your child’s wonder to the glory of Creation. This course will cover Year 1 of the 2-year GCSE astronomy course. And it can be used for the US High School Transcript. 

Day & Time: Mondays 2:30-4 pm GMT (Two 40-minute sessions with a short break in the middle.)

Required Materials:

• GCSE Astronomy Companion Workbook by Emma Cummings. This curriculum companion is required and is used in both GCSE Astronomy Year 1 and Year 2.
• GCSE Astronomy text  (Amazon link)
• 2025 Guide to the Night Sky
• 2026 Guide to the Night Sky

Prerequisites: Needs to be confident in maths and working at an iGCSE or equivalent level.

More About GCSE Astronomy Year 1 & Year 2

Our study will take us through the wonders of the Solar System, as we discover the dazzling variety of worlds in our local neighbourhood in the cosmos. We will look at the stars and discover the physics behind their power, and ultimately what makes life on earth possible. And we will study the fascinating world of cosmology.

The course also introduces the child to stargazing, and how to navigate the night sky. We will discuss observational skills used by astronomers to understand and unlock the mysteries of the cosmos.
