Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 2
For Autumn 2026
The Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 2 course will follow the Level 2 portion of the syllabus. Items listed in the Level 1 section are covered in the KS3 Maths classes, which are geared to a broad age range.
The course integrates engaging investigations, hands-on activities, and everyday applications, helping learners see the relevance of maths in daily life and decision-making whilst preparing them for the GCSE Exam.
In the class, we will complete the maths curriculum over two semesters (30 weeks total) in our live online sessions.
Age: 13-17
Day & Time: TBD UK Timezone (Two 40-minute sessions each week.)
Location: Zoom Meeting
Tutor: TBD
Prerequisite:
- No formal prerequisites, but a basic understanding of numeracy and everyday maths concepts is recommended.
- KS3 Maths or equivalent preferred

- Access to basic spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets, or similar)

Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Course Highlights
In Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 2, students will learn and strengthen the key mathematical skills. We will cover:
- Using numbers and the number system
- Using common measures, shapes, and space
- Handling information and data
Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Course Objectives & Outcomes
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Use and apply numbers confidently by working with positive and negative whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and ratios; perform calculations accurately and check answers using estimation and approximation.
- Apply mathematical knowledge in real-world contexts. Students will learn to interpret, model, and solve problems using appropriate mathematical methods and reasoning.
- Work with measures, geometry, and spatial awareness. Students will learn to use common measures (length, area, volume, time, money), properties of 2D/3D shapes, transformations, and scale, and apply geometry to practical situations.
- Handle information and data. Students will understand how to interpret, represent, and analyse data in tables, charts, and graphs; calculate averages (mean, median, mode), and understand simple probability.
- Think mathematically and communicate results. Students will learn how to select appropriate mathematical tools and methods, interpret outcomes, check accuracy, draw conclusions, and communicate solutions clearly in context.
These outcomes reflect both knowledge and the application of maths in practical contexts, preparing students to use maths confidently in daily life, further study, or work. Throughout the course, materials and examples are chosen to be age-appropriate, culturally aware, and aligned with Christian values, supporting both academic excellence and character development.
This class is geared toward students 14-16, but is equally open to younger students who are advanced in their maths skills or older students taking maths a bit slower. Students aged 14+, following the US Qualifications model, are able to put this course on a transcript as proof of their maths education level.
Edexcel Functional Skills Maths Level 2, Online Class
Classes will be interactive, and due to the live nature of the classes, they will be tailored to the individual needs of the students. We will use a number of interactive technologies to help gain an understanding of the concepts of mathematics.
